Hi There -

I got a MI 8 (Official Global ROM) from AllliExprress Merchant Hong Kong Goldway. Super Smartphone by the way!

I have 2 issues with it. I can not use Google Pay or download Netflix from Google Play.

Google Pay Issue: I get as far as confirming my Card details, but then it says "Couldn't finish setup to pay in shops. This phone can't be used to pay in shops. This may be because it is rooted or altered in some other way".

Google Play/Netflix Issue: I can not download Netflix from Google Play store. I think this is an issue with the certs on the phone. They are not correct for downloading from Google Play store from my location in Ireland.

Does the xiaomi.eu ROM fix these issues ? I would like to know before I flash the xiaomi.eu ROM. Or is there some config changes I can make to the existing Official Global ROM ?

Thanks in advance for guidance or answers.

It seems that your phone is either not certified by Google or runs with manipulated ROM. Your Phone fails during SafetyNet test.
You can proof Google's certification in PlayStore app -> Settings -> Play-Protect certification.

The Xiaomi.eu ROM does fix the issue. I use lastest stable ROM from Xiaomi.eu and my phone is rooted with Magisk. Nevertheless my phone passes SafetyNet test and is certifed by Google.

Thanks Conus for prompt reply. I'll use Xiaomi.eu ROM

Hi ! First what the mi 8 ? Global version ? On the package write in red "global version"
And do you have the Bootloader unlock ? With how mi account ?
And wich Rom install on this mi 8 ?

For me it's a chinese version with unlock Bl and a translate Rom flash on it..
Be carful if you flash or update !!! If is a chinese mi 8 you can use the Xiaomi eu Rom no mistake with it. But I don't know how you can flash it. Search on site many people had same phone but be carful don't lock Bootloader !!!!

Was phone really sold with open bootloader?
That's strange because Xiaomi locks bootloader for more than a year. I can't believe that this is an original device from manufacturer. It looks like second hand device that someone else has unlocked (and possibly flashed with global ROM).

BTW. Your phone (MI 8 "dipper") has rollback protection. Be careful - you can't go back to an older ROM version.

I brought mobile on AlliExprress from merchant Hong Kong Goldway. They got phone and put global version on as far as I know.

Hi ! No it's wrong the phone is new phone no mistake.. You can unlock it after 72hours now ! Just the resseler unlock it and flash the global rom but you risk to brick it if you update it or if they had a mistake. It's not good to stay like that.

DON'T MAKE ANY UPDATE OF MIUI !!!!
BUT THE FIRST IS TO KNOW IF IS A CHINESE MI 8 OR GLOBAL MI 8 ???
BECAUSE IT'S NOT THE SAME !!! IF IS GLOBAL IT'S ANOTHER MISTAKE.
BUT IF IS A CHINESE MI 8 PROCEED :

You can resolve it just make quielty.
Now you do to contact your reseller and know with wich account or method it unlock the phone ?
And I send you a link with all procedure to resolve your mistake and finaly flash Xiaomi.eu Rom is great and had your langage. You do to lock it on last China Dev Rom and unlock it again with your mi account and flash Twrp and Xiaomi.eu and great your mi 8 are perfect.

According to attached screenshot above it is official global ROM from Xiaomi: MIUI global 10.2.2.0 PEAMIXM

https://en.miui.com/thread-5289843-1-1.html

This ROM has SafetyNet certification but installed system has not. Therefore I suppose there could be a backdoor or trojan horse - or it's a fake ROM.

Thanks Conus.

So all I need to do is the following:

1, Make sure the bootloader is unlocked.
2, install the proper TWRP for Model.
3, copy the rom to the memory
4, install the xiaomi.eu rom via TWRP

Hi ! Yes on attached screenshot is the Global Rom but this is not the PROBLEM !!!

You can lock bootloader only if you have chinese version smartphone with official china rom

You can lock bootloader only if you have global version smartphone with official global rom

Sorry for bolds but is important, you can have more info below:
Announcement on MIUI Version Can't Install On This Device
Important Announcement About Flashing Mi Phones Manufactured by China!

Yes if you flash Twrp Dipper "1208" (work on global & Chinese & Custom as Lineage Rom ) and Flash Xiaomi Eu Rom no problem ... But if you have read the link the mistake are if something make wrong with unlock Bootloader with another mi account !!! And if when you restart it after flash and do put mi account use for unlock it !?

For me is important to know if your mi 8 are a global or chinese phone ? Not Rom installed... Read all link before do something because if you brick it.....
Have a good day.

@ggkameleon @adrnola: As long as you keep the bootloader unlocked it doesn't matter if the phone is for global or chinese market, you can flash whatever ROM you want. You only have to be careful when you lock the bootloader again:

And eu-ROMs don't have antirollback protection (ARB/ARP): https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/8-7-12-v2.44949/page-19#post-428251

Yes it's true :) but if after flash a Custom Rom and something make wrong it's not good to stay unlock with another mi account.

For me is more good to make if global mi 8 to lock it with Dev global Rom version and unlock it with yours mi account flash.... And if mi 8 Chinese lock it with Dev China Rim version and unlock it with yours mi account flash....

If you bootloader is unlocked, you won't get the Google play stored certified. How to fix that?

I have the mi 11 Pro China version. But flashed with the global version with unlocked bootloader. But I want to lock the bootloader but then will my device brick right? So I need to have it unlocked to stay on the global version... So how do I pass Google play store certified? Now it's not because the bootloader is unlocked.

Yes, you will certainly brick your device if you lock the bootloader with a Global ROM.

But why not install a Xiaomi.eu ROM instead???

If you want a certified device for Google, install Magisk (root) + this safetynet-fix module => https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads...k-xiaomi-eu-rom-with-magisk.63158/post-628631
